How to Wash Baby Clothes? Canadian Care Guide

Knowing how to care for baby clothes keeps them soft and durable for a long time. Here is the complete guide for Canadian parents.

Preparing for the first wash

Always wash new clothes before putting them on your baby. Even if they appear clean, they may contain manufacturing or transport residues that can irritate a baby's sensitive skin.

Recommended temperature

  • Standard cotton: 30°C, delicate cycle
  • Bamboo: 30°C maximum, do not wring vigorously
  • Merino wool: 30°C or hand wash
  • Fabric shoes: wipe clean with a damp cloth, do not machine wash

Recommended baby detergent

Use a detergent that is:

  • Fragrance-free and dye-free
  • Hypoallergenic (e.g., Dreft, Tide Free, Attitude)
  • In reduced quantity (50% of the normal dose)

Avoid fabric softeners — they reduce absorbency and can cause irritation.

Drying

  • Air drying is recommended to preserve colors
  • Tumble dryer: delicate cycle at low temperature if necessary
  • Do not dry in direct sunlight (fading)

Removing baby stains

  • Milk and puree: rinse with cold water immediately, then wash normally
  • Poop (meconium): cold water, enzymatic gel before washing
  • Grass: baking soda + cold water

All Mini Look Canada clothing is machine washable at 30°C, delicate cycle.
